Williams began his professional career as a Stockport County captain in 2003 after being released by West Bromwich Albion. Williams was first loaned out for Swansea City in March 2008. Williams was released from Everton agreed to a one-year contract in August of 2019 with Bristol City. The contract was renewed in the month of November.
